Capital Punishment writing 4

Capital punishment is a form of discipline brought upon others because of harsh crimes they’ve committed. These crimes are more than likely murder, and when someone is convicted of this, depending on the state, judge, and jurors that person will be sentenced to capital punishment also know as the death penalty. These include electric chair, lethal injection, hanging, and sometimes use of a firing squad. Many people think that this is the best method of punishment. I however strongly disagree because it shows that killing people is right by killing other people, the cost of killing people is more than the cost of housing an inmate for life, some are innocent and unjustly convicted, and the methods are gruesome and inhumane.
Lex Talionis which is a Latin phrase meaning a life for a life is one of the sole reasons people are for the death penalty. That is not only sickening and disgusting but a disgrace to humans everywhere. A life for a life proves absolutely nothing. We are suppose to be teaching people that killing is wrong not killing people to show them that killing is wrong. Exchanging life for another is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. We as Americans are messing up lives and have our priorities messed up. Vengeance, in my opinion, is ignorance.
In most murder cases defendants have two trials; one to determine if the defendant is guilty or not and second being whether or not they get the death penalty. Defendants receiving the death penalty are granted an appeal, as you could imagine this takes time and M-O-N-E-Y. Whose money? Our money. It is a proven fact that those who are seeking the death penalty cost more than housing an inmate for life. The reason being the lengthy time of the trials and the many steps everyone must take to ensure "fairness". In Texas the average cost of a capital trial is than the cost to incarcerate a person for forty years. That is absolutely ridiculous.
As of 1999, sixty-nine people on death row were released based on DNA evidence. In 1997 a Louisiana teen was sentenced to death after claims of being seen robbing and killing a grocer. This teen in 2004 was exonerated because his DNA did not match that of the real killer. This is just another ridiculous reason of why the death penalty should be unconstitutional. How in the world do we let innocent people be convicted and murdered when we have criminals roaming our streets.
Capital punishment is considered by many the most inhumane feeling alive. It is cruel and disgusting. In Alabama during a 1983 execution a man by the name of John Evans was electrocuted. The first 900 volts didn’t kill him so they tried again. The second set of volts didn’t kill him. Witnesses said that Evans skull was smoking but doctors said he was still conscious. Witnesses also spoke of the smell of vomit and feces. The guard sent another 900 volts through Evans body and he was killed. This goes back and plays a factor in cruel and unusual punishment, which is in the eighth amendment. Evan’s rights were violated. It is not fair how this man was treated.
On June 24, 2004 in New York the death penalty was declared unconstitutional. Every other state in the United States still uses the death penalty. It is extremely ridiculous and anyone who participates is sick. The death penalty shows no remorse for anyone’s life. As of February 15, 2007 there were fifty new prisoners added to the death row. These prisoners will wait for death. Can you imagine the feeling that a person has knowing that they’re going to die but has to wait for it?

Modernism Literature project 6

I chose the Harlem Renaissance because i always hear of old black people talking about it and feel kind of left out. I like the way that this is a time period for blacks' progression as artists and other things that contributed to our country. The Harlem Renaissance wasnt only the upbringing of blacks but the knowledge to them that they to could succeed in this world. They were always looked down upon because their parents were probably slaves but when they wrote novels made music and invented things it showed that blacks not doing anything was just a theory.
The story i read "sweat" by zora neale hurston was really great. The character Delia in this story went through a lot with her husband even sometimes being beat by him. Delia did everything in her power to make sure he had everything in his will power. She washed clothes for white people and took the money to provide shelter and food for her and her husband. Her husband was so unappreciative and its sad that someone would so someone like he did her. He cheated on her and all kind of awful things but end the end it served him right to be bitten by a snake. In an opinion he was killed by his worst enemy the devil which is apparently his alter ego. I understand why the story was called sweat though. It was called that because Delia slaved and sweat and cried about all of these things. i really enjoyed this story because it tells the tell of an african americans womens hard life.
Zora Neale Hurston did her best and during these times she shows how she could make a literary impact being the color she was. I'm sure she was greatly appreciated during these times. one thing that sparked my interest in this story was when the husband was calling out for her
when he was being bit by the snake. Weird! Examples: He picked up the whip and glared down at her. Delia went on with her work. She went out into the yard and returned with a galvanized tub and set it on the washbench. She saw that Sykes had kicked all of the clothes together again, and now stood in her way truculently, his whole manner hoping, praying, for an argument."Ah don't keer if you never git through. Ah done promised Gawd and a couple of other men, Ah aint gointer have it in mah house. Don't gimme no lip neither, else Ah'll throw 'em out and put mah fist up side yo' head to boot." Sykes is indeed controlling. She seized the iron skillet from the stove and struck a defensive pose, which act surprised him greatly, coming from her. It cowed him and he did not strike her as he usually did. Delia is defending herself.

Richard Coey
This poem is about a guy who is rich and unhappy. He apparently speaks to the town but is not as happy as ordinary people.
"And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
1
Went home and put a bullet through his head."

He kills himself and shows an example of disallusionment. Money and Riches arent exactly guaranteed to buy you happiness.

Mending wall
This poem is about a guy who wants his privacy but also wants to have a relationship with his neighbor. the fence represents his own space.
"He is all pine and I am apple orchard.

My apple trees will never get across

And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.

He only says, “Good fences make good neighbours.”


Dream Deferred
This poem is an example of the harlem Renaissance. It is asking what happens to dreams?
"What happens to a dream deferred?"

The Negro Speaks of Rivers- This poem is about a guy who is talking about the rivers hes seen. He is also talking about how his soul is old like rivers. The poem would be under Harlem Renaissance.

Incident- "Now I was eight and very small, And he was no whit bigger,And so I smiled, but he poked out His tongue, and called me, "Nigger." This poem would be considered a part of the Harlem Renaissance. This poem is about a kid who went to baltimore but didnt remember anything about what he say except when the guy called him out of his name.

Death around the corner was an excellent book. It constantly kept you on edge and always seemed like you were there when you read it.

Realism literature project 6

Realism shows the reality behind things it doesnt require you to use your imagination its just out there. Its not sugarcoated or based its something that you just read hear or see and automatically know what it is.

1. a. "The story of an hour" Mrs. Mallard is a lady whom probably does everything her husband wants yet second guesses marriage. In the story she has a husband who supposedly dies. She is told that her husband died, sobs a little and walks to her room. While looking out a simple window she hears and sees things that make her feel incredible. "The delicious rain was in the air. in the street below a peddler was crying his waves. the notes of a distant song which some was one singing reacherd her faint and sparrow twittering" The way this was described seems like she never paid any attention to these types of things before and it almost has a relaxed feel which she probably lacked.The author explains her feeling and to a suprise she was glad her husband was "DEAD". "Free, Body and Soul Free." Thats what she said and it shows her happiness. Her husband comes home and she drops dead because her joy was turned into disappointment.
b. The social issue Chopin wants to solve is women's rights. She believes women are basically slaves to their husbands. She wanted people to see the reality behind marriage.

2. a. Fredrick Douglass was a slave who seeked freedom. In the story "The battle with Mr. Covey" he tells of an encounter with a man who rented him for a year."You have seen a man made a slave, You shall see a slave made man" Fredrick douglass used that quote to reflect on his fight with Mr. Covey. Fredrick wen through a lot with him. He even tried to tell his big master on Mr. Covey. Fredrick tried many things but when once confronted by him he decided to fight back. This fight made Mr. Covey not hit Douglass again.

b. Social issue: Slavery was the social issue in this story. Douglass wanted to show people how bad slaves really had it.

c. Purpose for writing this? He was a slave self educated and wanted people to feel his place and let them know what he wen through. He was happy by his defeat. "It was a glorius ressurection from the tombs of slavery to the heaven of freedom"

3. The news is a perfect example of realism everyday i turn on the television and see horrible and gruesome things. The news shows everything that is happening and its hard to hear anything positive.

A Visit to Grandma's (writing 2)

On an old road where cows lie and their calves grow, there is a house behind a tree, but in front of a forest. An old black mailbox with the numbers 464 engraved on it tells the tale of a housekeeper who’s been there forever. The house is a brisk blue with a cemented pathway that leads to the wide screened door. The musty air hits you as soon as you walk in the door, and old "Sanford & Son" sitcoms can be heard throughout the house. The floor creaks and the smell of mustard greens and fresh trout symbolizes the "get together" of a close family. This is my Grandmother’s house.

On most Sundays before the passing of my beloved grandmother, our family got together and enjoyed the taste of good collard greens, fried porkchops, mac and cheese, chicken and dumplings and many more tasty items. I remember my grandma use to say, "Greens taste the best when a little frost hit em" and boy was she right. The taste of all these foods were enough to put local restaurants out of business - grandma could cook. Holidays were the best. On Thanksgiving we’d eat Turkey, the best dressing in the world with a little giblet gravy, a big juicy ham with pineapples for that sweet taste, duck with a little ginger dressing and a little peppercorn for the tangy taste and you were lucky if you had room for dessert. Sweet potato pie, Red velvet cake, banana pudding, and the ever so famous Potato soufflé.

On a day when she wasn’t cooking, you’d just stop and see her out in her lush garden pulling out weeds and planting the biggest petunias and elephant plants you’d ever seen. Sometimes you’d see her sitting in her rocking chair shucking corn with her long gray hair blowing in the wind. Like any other old person, she’d be on the phone gossiping about what happened in the family or watching her daily soap operas. She’d braid her hair and put on her housedress and go to cleaning. Her house was open to anyone in need. There is no surprise as to who you may see, from grandchildren to cousins, and to people from the church, her house was a harbor to all.
One thing about grandma’s house is it never had an exact smell, only smells you could remember. For instance, the beginning of spring meant the house would smell of pine and lemon furniture cleaner. In the summer the house would smell of dust and musty air from the fans and air conditioners. In fall the house would smell of cinnamon and in the wintertime the house would smell of old kerosene heaters. When you smelled whiting and trout somebody was coming over or grandma was in a good mood. The smells most memorable were the summer BBQ’s, the smell of hickory smoked ribs and grilled hotdogs were unimaginable.

At Grandma’s house you’d hear a blend of Al Green, Sam Cooke, and the Isley Brothers playing on an old record player. The sound of grease popping and the dryer going constantly is a lingering sound as are the doors slamming shut and the weak but demanding voice of grandma hollering at us kids telling us to stay in or out of the house. On get togethers you’d hear laughter and old stories about something someone did that was so embarrassing. You’d occasionally hear stray dogs barking and whining for food. You might even hear the sound of TV land or "The Price is Right" game show. One sound you would’ve gotten use to though is the sound of grandma’s footsteps going through the house. Her feet were so heavy that it sounded like a marching band or a parade going through the house.

When you first walk in grandma’s house you suddenly feel the warmth of her presence. The "Home Sweet Home" displays make you feel cozy and welcome. The greatest feel of all though is the one when you get the great big old hug from grandma that lets you know she’s happy to see you. The texture of her rough yet soft hands grasps your cheeks in an effort to let you know how beautiful you are. The sofa in the living room feels rough and worn out but makes the best sleeping accommodations.

From sundown to sunup the smell and the vision of my grandma’s house always lingers. Although she is gone she will never be forgotten. The house remains at still and the things that were once there aren’t anymore. I love to visit every once in a while just to catch up on old times, however the feelings not the same. From the meals to the holidays and best times my grandma’s house is the best place to visit in the world. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Dark Romanticism Literature Project 5

1. A. Nathaniel Hawthorne-He would be against transcendentalism because he believed part of his family were evil. He disowned his family and knew all people weren't good and pure. His family was his proof.

B. Herman Melville-Melville would definitely not be considered pure or good. He witnessed cannibals and knew that the world held unpure people. He wrote a book about a shark eating a sailors leg off called"Moby Dick". This shows that his mind held a little grain of evil and this would not be God's thoughts.

C. Edgar Allen Poe- This author is completely insane and would have disagreed with Transcendentalist because of what happened in his life. This author wrote about disturbing events that happened when the character was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

2. I don't believe everyone is good nor evil however, some things i disagree with are evil. I believe i would be a dark romantic because i don't believe the world or people are pure or good based on the things i see on the news. I think the Transcendentalist were crazy themselves if they thought the things they thought their beliefs were messed up.

4. Poe's "The Black Cat" was very amazing yet devilish. He started as someone who described his love for pets. "i was especially fond of animals, and was indulged by my parents with a great variety of pets" Poe had a cat named Pluto he really loved this cat. "Pluto was the cat's name-was my favorite pet and playmate." Poe then talks about how he becomes very moody and irratible and then he snaps. " i seized him when in his fright at my violence he inflicted a slight wound upon my hand with his teeth. The fury of a demon instanly possessed me. I knew myself no longer. My original soul seemed at once to take its flight from my body; and a more than fiendish malevolence, gin nurtured thrilled every fibre of my frame. i took then from my coat pocket a pin knife opened it grasped the poor beast by the throat, and cut one if its eyes from the socket! i blush, i burn, i shudder while pen the damnable atrocity" This story was definaltyl crazy and shows the difference between Transcendentalist and Dark Romantics. Poe should have gone to a crazy bin. Poe would have thought he was indeed pure. Transcendentalists are really wrong on what they believe. One thing that really stuck out to me was "Evil thoughts became my sole intimates the darkest and most evil of thoughts" That shows that there are evil thoughts in our minds.

5."The Raven" How it stuck out and how is it anti transcendental? He is visited by a bird who will never go away and will always make him suffer. "From my nooks surcease of sorrow for the lost Lenore. For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore" this poem is about a raven who represents death coming and will never leave and constantly leave him in sorrow. This is anti transcendental because the Transcendentals would have never believed in a bird talking to someone or anything in that sense. Poe was an absolute lunatic.

6. When Poe was born his parents died. He was taken in by a merchant named John Allen. His brothe died and his sister went insane. He was a ddicted to drugs and often wrote aout this. All of Poe's wives died and he became more and more insane. He was smart and a dedicated writer. His writings are analyzed by many and are said to be about himself but given alter ego names.

The house of dies drear

This book so far is a good book...i really enjoy it! its about a guy named Dies Drear who is an abolitionist from england who moves to ohio to harbor slaves. Dies Drear is killed and his spirit is said to haunt his house.We'll See!!

Transcendentalism literature project 4

Beliefs:
1. Oversoul-Everyone shared the same soul in a sense
2. Mind was the most powerful instrument in the world
3. Intuition- Voice of God through everyone
4. People didnt inherit original sin
5. Every human was good and pure.

1.Nature: By Ralph Waldo Emerson

"But if a man would be alon let him look at the stars. The rays that come from those heavenly worlds will seperate between him and what he touches"
That is saying that for someone to be able to listen to their minds that they will beed to be alone.
Alone is in the author's opinion staring at the heavens.
The meaning of this poem is the beauty and perfection of nature and the "real" nature lover. It also talks about how walking through nature allows you to follow intution.

"His intercourse with heaven and earth becomes part of his daily food." This is saying that his visit with nature and talks with god becomes part of his daily ritual. " in the woods i turn to reason and faith, there is nothing that can befall me no disgrace no calamity which nature cannot repair." This is saying that when he returns to nature that their is nothing that can make him feel bad that he turns to faith and reason. Being that Transcendalists believed in intuition this is exactly what this poem is pointing out. Listenting to your mind is not writing things out or reading but walking through forests or visiting nature to kind of see things through. No one can affect you while you are doing this. It is the best way to understand yourself.

2. "Self Reliance" by : Ralph Waldo Emerson

"That though the wide universe is good. No kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestwoed on the plot of ground which is givent to him" this means that nothing is given to anyone it is made from what they make it. Self reliance as a poem means that you focuse soley on yourself. "God will not have his woks mad manifest by cowards" This is saying that God wants his work done by good people. This poem is a good example of Transcendalism because Transcendalist believed that all people were good at heart and that if they used their mind then they could accomplish anything. This falls into their belief of the mind being the most powerful instrument in the world.

3."Resistance to Civil Government" By: Henry David Thoreau

"It does not keep the country free, It does not settle the west" This story is about a guy who is arrested for not paying a tax that will help slavery which is something that he is against. The author is saying that slavery wont make the country free or help settle our problems. The night in prison inspired the author to write about what was happening. This makes this an example of Transcendalism because the author takes this one night and speaks with his innerself to sort out things are happening to write this story.


1. Susan and David planned to marry as soon as they graduated high school. David's father owns a small grocery store, and he has promised David a full-time managerial position once he graduates high school. During their senior year, Susan begins to think she would like to go to school hundreds of miles away. In the Spring, Susan recieves a full scholarship to this far-off school, and she has also continued making wedding plans with David.

In this case i would have followed my heart through if this is what i wanted to do then i would have done it.." A man is relieved and gay when he has put his heart into his work and done his best". this would have been a transcendentalism thought because they believed if it was something you thought to do then god was speaking to you."

What is Reggae? Analytical Writing




What is Reggae music?



Reggae is a genre of music that started in Jamaica. This type of music is different from any other music for many reasons. From the culture to the artists, it is unique. Reggae music is my favorite music because its captures the essence of true music. It is a type of music that talks about anything relating to the Jamaican culture, and the sound is like no other.
The Jamaican culture is distinct. Most Jamaicans have a very positive attitude and vibrant feel for life. For some, their religion is also different. Most believe in Rastafarianism which says, Ras Tafari is God and that black people can find salvation by moving to Ethiopia, a country in which Jamaicans feel life is great. People sung of Ethiopia as a place that was worry free and lacked poverty. When in all actuality it was poverty-stricken and held 50% of the HIV cases worldwide. In Reggae songs, Zion was often used when referring to Ethiopia.
If you’ve ever listened to Reggae music you would almost instantly pick up the distinct sound. This sound comes from the unique instruments Jamaicans chose. Most instruments are common and sound great when used right. Because most of these instruments are used in other types of music, the sound comes out as a beat knocking, head bobbing rhythm. Drums, Rhythm guitars, pianos and Organs are just some of the instruments used to create reggae music. The instruments mainly depend on the genre of music though. Depending on the artist the music almost always sounds great.
Reggae has genres, including: Ska, RockSteady, Rub-a-Dub, dancehall, and sometimes Gospel. Ska is the combination of American Jazz and blues. Ska was popular during the early 1960’s. RockSteady has a relaxed tempo and was popular between 1966 and 1968. Dub is similar to the American MC or DJ. The music is taken and remade using other beats to "twist" the song. Bob Marley’s music genre is Dancehall reggae. Peter Tosh another artist, music was an example of Reggae Gospel. Like all Genres of music there are certain artists. In Reggae there are many. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Mad Cobra, Buju Banton, Beenie Man to name a few. Each has been recognized today and their music has pathed the way for artists today. Their success is remembered and when we hear today’s music.
Lyrics make a song memorable and can determine a song’s meaning. When you hear a reggae song, the lyrics almost always talk about society. Some lyrics can be controversial yet have positive edges. It’s safe to say that certain reggae artists often spark controversial lyrics. In Bob Marley’s "Them Belly Full (but we hungry)" he spoke of fighting every day and by fighting he meant fighting hunger, pain, and ghettos. For example "Cost of living gets so high rich and poor they start to cry." In another song titled "War" also by Bob Marley he spoke of war between races. For example "That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all, Without regard to race- dis a war." The song war was originally a speech by Hallie Salasie better known as Jah Rasta Fari. Both of these songs relate to what life is actually like and made us see that we are in this world together.
Reggae, in my opinion, is the best music in the world. From its weird yet amazing sound, to the lyrics and to the people behind the lyrics, reggae will live on and forever be idolized. Jamaicans have made a worldly impact and Reggae will always be heard. Reggae lyrics have changed the way that we Americans think. The lyrics with such bold statements have made us realize that we take life for granted and artists nowadays have grown and learned through this. Lyrically, Reggae music outdoes any other musical aspiration. In time this world will grow to love this funky sound.

American Romanticism Literature project 3

1. The story i chose to read was the legend of Sleepy Hollow. This story takes place in a little town called Tarry Town. The story is a tale of a headless horsemen who haunts the town of sleepy hollow. The story talks about a guy by the name of Ichabod Crane who comes to this town makes a guy by the name brom bones mad. They feud and one night Ichabod is told this tale of the headless horsemen. Legend has it that he is confronted by this "horsemen" and he disappears. Honestly i don't think this is really what happened. Personally i believe that Ichabod was confronted by Brom Bones and killed. However the legend goes its pretty unbelievable.

2. In the story of Sleepy Hollow i almost always identified an example of Romanticism. Since Romanticists focused on nature in their writing, it is conclusive with this. For example "A pleasing land of drowsy head it was,Of dreams that wave before the half-shut eye;And of gay castles in the clouds that pass,Forever flushing round a summer sky." and here as well "A drowsy, dreamy influence seems to hang over the land, and to pervade the very atmosphere." The writer made me actually feel like i saw the things he spoke of. Pretty weird but i visualized this whole scene.

3." When thoughts Of the last bitter hour come like a blight Over thy spirit, and sad images Of the stern agony, and shroud, and pall, And breathless darkness, and the narrow house, Make thee to shudder, and grow sick at heart;-" To me this is saying that when you think of the last hour of your life, don't be so quick to think negative. Death is beautiful in a sense. Let not those bad images keep you alive. For death is natural and it comes to all. What makes this poem romantic is the Nature theme applied to it. Beyond the difficult words there is a meaning.

4.The ropewalk a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was very interesting. The point of the poem was about a worker who prepared ropes. He spoke of the things he saw or imagined would happen while working. It also seems he might've created the ropes and imagined them to be what he saw. The images that stand out to me are the little girl swinging, the ships and the seabreeze all of which the author spoke of. The Rope walk is a good example of romanticism because in each stanza the author speaks of something that has to do with nature.

5. The painting shown could be considered romanticism because of the setting. The painting i chose could be considered romantic because of the pictures setting. The picture is of a tree and shade which is nature all around. Romantists focused on nature so this would definately be considered romantic.

The Texas 7 chapter 2-4

In this part of the book..They have now escaped and have killed at least 2 people. There are seven inmates who believe escaping is the only way through. They break into the maintenance garage and steal a patrol car. two are dressed up like guards and the others have changed into a set of street clothes. The guards finally escape from the closet where they were tied down and let the prison know. The search now begins.

Rationalism Literature project

1. The Puritans and the Rationalists differed mainly because the rationalist believed in science versus the puritans belief in God. The puritans believed God made things and that it shouldn't be questioned. The Rationalist wanted to find other reasons that things were the way they were by using Math and Science. Abortion could be an example of what the puritans would think is wrong. Cloning would be an example of something the rationalists would agree with.

2. Read the excerpt..

3.What makes Ben Franklin a rationalist is simple. Ben Franklin was a self taught scientist who disputed religion and was sought to be an atheist. He made a list of 13 virtues.this shows hes a rationalist because puritans would consult god about their problems versus Ben Franklin writing it down and fixing each problem one at a time...this kind of relates to science because scientists usually write down things and let them go through a series of tests.he judged his problems and sought to make it better.
By making a list it kind of shows how he felt he could change things himself. He knew he didnt have to consult God about every thing. This of course would have angered the Puritans because it insulted their beliefs.



4. My 13 Virtues
1. Attitude: Be nice to those surrounding me.
2. Silence: Speak when spoken to..or only when needed
3.Food Intake- Eat Healthy and alot less
4. Trouble- Stay out of it
5. Education- Learn more and quit wasting it
6. Valuables- Treat my valuables as i treat myself
7. Honesty- Always be honest
8. Emotions- Quit disquising and hiding my thoughts.
9. Nature- Go outside more
10. Family- visit my family more
11. Money- make more of it
12. Judgment-Stop worrying about people's thought and stop judging them.
13. Time- make more of it

5. "all men are created equal" That would be a rationalist thought but not to puritans whom believed that God only chose those to have certain abilities. "that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" The puritans would certainly disagree with this statement being that they thought God only wanted some people to be happy and free while he chose others to suffer for their disbelief in him. "That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it"The puritans would have thought that God would deal with things like that and the people didnt have the right to change things."

The Texas 7 so far is a non fiction book about 7 texas fugitives who escaped from prison. As of right now because i havent gotten far in the book all i know is the escape plot. The escape plot is simple because of all the connections the prisoners have.

Puritanism Literature Project 1

Literature Assignment
1. The puritans were a group of English colonists who left England because of lack of freedom of religion. The Puritans had many different beliefs which people didn't sometimes agree. Some of there beliefs were as followed. They (puritans) believed that Every person is born sinful, God saves those that he wishes to save, Jesus died for the chosen one and not for everyone, God's grace is given and it cant be earned or denied, and if anyone is given grace and rejects it is going against the grace of god. All of these are Puritans beliefs' which is bound together in their religion known as Puritanism.

2. I just read the excerpt called "Plymouth Plantation" which was the journal of William Bradford, a leader of the puritan separatists. He and some of his fellow Puritan followers were on the Mayflower(a boat) and landed to form their puritan colony. He talked about how he felt and what went on. He spoke of people being so gracious to land even after fighting the seas and being "weather beaten". I can only think of what they could've went through. I mean they must have gone through a lot to escape from England and travel overseas not knowing where they were going, just to start a colony with people who believed in the same things they believed in.
When i read this i also noted that they spoke of an encounter with Indians. They (a few puritans) were well armed and followed these Indians. They found fresh water and took this water as if it were beer or wine. They marched on and found corn in which the Indians had. They took some corn and took it back to their "colony". They told their master of such a place and he to decided he wanted to go back and explore this land.
The Indians seemed angered by this so they made a Treaty with them. The treaty said:

1.That neither he nor any of his should injure or do hurt to any of their people.
2.That if any of his did hurt to any of theirs, he should send the offender, that they might punish him.
3.That if anything were taken away from any of theirs, he should cause it to be restored; and they should do the like to his.
4.If any did unjustly war against him, they would aid him; if any did war against them, he should aid them.
5.He should send to his neighbors confederates to certify them of this, that they might not wrong them, but might be likewise comprised in the conditions of peace.
That when their men came to them, they should leave their bows and arrows behind them.

Over all the Puritans became the Pilgrims and their beliefs are still celebrated today in some countries across the world. Some of their beliefs aren't the best beliefs and somethings they believe in aren't really understandable. Its a custom so i respect it though.

3. In the "Sinners in the Hands" excerpt which is a sermon most of the beliefs are pointed out.
Example: The wrath of God burns against them, their damnation does not slumber; the pit is prepared, the fire is made ready, the furnace is now hot, ready to receive them; the flames do now rage and glow... that could be an example of the Perseverance of the "saints".

Example: It is no security to a natural man, that he is now in health, and that he does not see which way he should now immediately go out of the world by any accident, and that there is no visible danger in any respect in his circumstances. ..That could be an example of Unconditional Election.

Example: God has so many different unsearchable ways of taking wicked men out of the world and sending them to hell, that there is nothing to make it appear, that God had need to be at the expense of a miracle, or go out of the ordinary course of his providence, to destroy any wicked man, at any moment....That could be an example of Limited Atonement.

4. I believed Puritans wrote in plain style just to get their point across. They weren't people to beat around the bush. As long as they knew God would accept them they pretty much didn't care about others. One thing that was boring and plain to me was the excerpt on Sinners in the hands of an Angry God. It just basically didn't make any sense. I didn't like it however, i liked the William Bradford excerpt.

All about the infamous Andrea

My name is Andrea Elise Coleman..I'm a junior in High School..my race is interesting being I'm Italian and African American..I am 16...finally got my license...I enjoy being me..and more importantly being myself..School is a very important part of me..I love school and school loves me...One day i plan on becoming a famous actress or maybe a homicide detective..as you can see..I'm a little unsure....if i could describe myself in three words they would be...competitive...joyous..and ever so Brilliant...
My philosophy on life is....Live like there is no tomorrow..you only got one life so..anything you want to do...do it why you still have the chance...I enjoy life and everything about it...I do have my disagreements on certain things...however if you have an open voice then I'm willing to listen..I'm open minded very strong willed...almost always opinionated...and well that's enough for now...Please get the chance to know me...I'm a very intricate individual...
